Safety Week

Dear Challenger Community,

This upcoming week, your students will be learning & practicing all required safety drills; fire, earthquake, lockdown, shelter-in-place and evacuation. By law, all ISD schools are required to practice at least one drill per month. By practicing these drills on a regular basis, students and staff develop “muscle memory” in how to react in the event of a real emergency. Practicing drills can elicit some strong responses from some of our learners-especially our youngest learners or those with developmental delays. Please note, we take care to introduce the concepts in a developmentally appropriate way using read alouds and child-friendly language. As parents, your role is to continue the discussion in the evenings to reinforce the importance of staying safe at school and at home. Do you have a family plan for a house fire or earthquake? This is a great time to have those conversations as a family.

If you’d like more information about our Safety Preparedness, please visit our district webpage at ISD Safety and Security

Thank you for always partnering with us!

Kind regards,

Linda Ogden
