Latest Update

Hello Room 211 Families,

Wow!  Spring Break has come and gone – it’s hard to believe!

We wrapped up our Transportation theme just before the break and have now moved onto Baby Animals.  New vocabulary includes kitten, puppy, lamb, piglet, duckling, chick, calf, tadpole, fawn, bunny and bear cub as well as burrow, nest, pond, and forest.

A quick update on our academic curricula:

Literacy – Students continue to work on strengthening their knowledge of letter names, letter sounds, and blending those sounds to read familiar and new words in isolation and in text.  We are continuing to work on our ability to segment words, identify rhymes, and isolate beginning/middle/final sounds in familiar CVC words.  We are also starting a small unit of drawing and writing.  Students will be finishing a picture and writing a sentence to match.

Math – Kindergarteners are learning about shapes – circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, and rhombuses.  They are learning about two-dimensional shapes (matching, sorting, identifying shapes presented in different orientations, etc.) as well as constructing with three-dimensional shapes to make block towers.  Our first graders are starting to access their Zearn accounts through our class Clever page.  Students are working through modules that are reinforcing their emerging addition skills (learning to compose and decompose numbers).  If you’d like your child to practice their math skills at home, log into their Clever account  Once in, click on “Room 211 – Ms. Jaime” and look for this icon under “Learning Apps – Math”:
