Welcome to Room 211

Dear Room 211 families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Challenger Elementary!

I am very excited to welcome everyone to our classroom, Room 211!  School starts next week, and everyone is hard at work preparing for a great year ahead.  I want to share the following information in preparation for next week:

  • Meet the Teacher is scheduled for Monday, August 29th from 10:00am – 11:00am.  Our class will be meeting in Room 211.  This is a great time to drop off supplies and catch me up on all things related to your child’s school day.  I’d love for you to plan on visiting your child’s General Education classroom as well and stick around for the PTA popsicle party!
  • Curriculum Night is set for Monday, August 29th. We will be meeting at 5:00pm in Room 211 to go over the curriculum we use in our program.  You are then encouraged to join the General Education class presentation that will start at 6:00pm.
  • Our first-grade and second-grade friends will be starting school on Tuesday, August 30th.
  • Kindergarteners will start later in the week on Friday, September 2nd (after all Family Connection meetings have happened).
  • Unlike last year, a school lunch will NOT be provided for free each day.  Although I do not have a menu yet, please let me know if this is something you’re interested in purchasing for your child.   You can request a school lunch at any point in the year.
  • I do not have bus route information at the moment.  Please reach out directly to our Transportation department for route numbers and pick-up/drop-off times if you still need that information.  If you have decided to drive your child to and/or from school, please let me know.  For those driving, you will have to park and walk your child across the front crosswalk to meet our class each morning.
  • Masks are no longer required in the classroom. They are optional.

The following items will be needed at school – PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING:

  • Provide two snacks and a water bottle, daily (along with lunch if not buying a school lunch).
  • Send in any toileting supplies that are necessary for your child (diapers, pull-ups, wipes, etc).  These items will be stored in the classroom.
  • Send your child with a change of clothing that will remain at school (in case of a toilet, food or weather-related accident, etc.).
  • Send your child with their fully-charged iPad or core book, if applicable, to school each day.
  • Grade level school supplies can also be sent in; however, please do not label anything as supplies will be shared.
  • Finally, please avoid sending toys to school.

I know this has been a lot of information all at once.  I will continue to communicate often and welcome questions you may have.  Again, welcome to a new school year at Challenger – I’m looking forward to partnering with each family and hopefully meeting everyone Monday morning!

Take care,

Jaime
