Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all in Room 211! We are off to a great start in 2023. We have spent a lot of time reviewing school expectations for walking in the hallway and have also reintroduced our classroom routines and schedule. We will continue to remind, model, and practice expected behaviors throughout the day.

Curriculum Updates:

Literacy – We have continued to build our phonics knowledge by identifying initial sounds, working on blending sounds and compound words for improved fluency, and finding words that we read with the same sound as targeted letters each week. We have started making predictable writing charts, too. Topics have included colors, food, and animals. This week we are going to brainstorm weather options and write a sentence sharing our favorite type of weather. For example, “I like windy weather.”

Math – We are working to compare and identify sets of objects that are equal, have more, or have less. This can be a tricky concept to visualize so we are making sure we have plenty of repetition with manipulatives that allow us to see the amounts in a more concrete way.

Please mark your calendars for the two upcoming no school days later this month. There will be no school on Monday, January 16th (in observance of MLK Jr. Day) and Friday, January 27th (teacher work-day).

I’ve added a lot of pictures to the photos page. Please be sure to check out all our students hard at work – both academically and socially!  Thank you for continuing to communicate with me about your child – it’s exciting to celebrate accomplishments and successes big and small! I look forward to all the great things in store for us in 2023!

Take care,

Jaime
