Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello Room 211 Families!

Thanksgiving is upon us and we want to wish every family a wonderful celebration.  There is no school for the rest of the week – we will see everyone back on Monday, November 28th.

On November 28th, I will email your child’s progress report.  Please let me know if you’d like a hard copy sent home in the communication notebook and I will make sure to prepare that for you.

There is no school on Wednesday, November 29th and December 1st for conferences.  If you have signed up for a conference, I’m looking forward to meeting with you and your child’s grade level general education teacher in their classroom.  Please remember, this 20-minute meeting is not an IEP team meeting.

A quick update on what we’ve been up to in class – We are wrapping up our Fall theme and will be diving into Winter before we know it (although it feels like we already did with the cold temps lately!).  We have continued to focus on phonics instruction and solidifying letter-sound recognition.  Please read and reread the leveled books that are being sent home.  Point out letters and words…ask your child to find a certain letter/sound…see if they can touch a word that matches a picture.  Can they find the same letter that their name starts with?  It’s also great to just read for the sake of reading and enjoying a story together.  Not every story needs to be a reading lesson!

We are continuing to build a strong foundation with our number sense.  We are focusing on numbers up to 5 and how many ways we can show or represent the numeral.  Five fingers.  Five pictures.  Five on a dice.  Five tally marks.  Do you have 5 spoons at the dinner table?  Do you have 5 windows you could count in your home?  Did you see a 5 while driving?  Numbers are everywhere!

A small batch of photos have been uploaded.  Please remember that we try to capture everyone equally; however, with students and staff out sick a lot lately, it’s not always the case.

Have a safe and restful holiday weekend,

Jaime
