It Finally Feels Like October!

Hello Room 211 Families,

I didn’t think I would ever want it to rain so badly…but the rain finally showed up and indoor recesses are hopefully a thing of the past now!  I think everyone was going a little stir-crazy inside.  We manage to make the best of the situation with scooter rides down the hallway and extra art projects throughout the week.

In Motor Language Group, Ms. Burd (SLP) and Ms. Joy (OT) brought masks to decorate and candy to the classroom.  We practiced trick-or-treating by knocking, saying “trick-or-treat,” showing the mask, and saying thank you for the candy.  If your family chooses to participate in any Halloween festivities, we hope this was a helpful activity to introduce the vocabulary and steps involved with one aspect of Halloween.

All students will be joining their general education classroom for Halloween activities on the 31st.  Please keep an eye out for any information or newsletters coming from your child’s grade level teacher.  Remember, students are not allowed to have face paint, face coverings, wigs, and/or pretend weapons that go with certain costumes while at school.  If you have any questions on what is appropriate, please reach out.  If your child chooses to dress up for Halloween while at school, please make sure the costume is something they will be comfortable in all day and can easily access the bathroom in.  Thanks in advance for helping program staff ensure a smooth day for all!

We have several no school days coming up.  Please mark your calendar!

  • Monday, October 24th – Teacher Workday
  • Friday, November 11th – Veterans Day
  • Thursday, November 24th & Friday, November 25th – Thanksgiving Break
  • Wednesday, November 30th & Friday, December 1st – Elementary Conferences (more information to come…please sign up with your general education teacher if you’d like to have a conference)

Finally, we have had a lot of students absent lately due to illness.  Colds, coughs, and other flu-like symptoms run through our classroom (and school) so quickly and easily.  Thank you so much for keeping your child home if they are not feeling well.  An additional thank you to all who have immediately picked their sick child up from school when the school calls.  It is greatly appreciated by all at Challenger.

Hope you’re all having a great weekend!  Be sure to check out the latest round of photos!

Take care,

Jaime
