Early October

Hello, all!

Great things are happening in Room 211!  Here’s the latest:

We started our literacy curriculum last week.  Students are learning the lesson format as we introduce oral exercises that require listening and repeating sounds.  There is also a language component where we work to increase vocabulary and label pictures using complete sentences.  To support what is happening in the classroom, please take time to read to your child each day, even if just for a few minutes.  It’s helpful to talk about the illustrations by labeling what you see.

In math, we are working to strengthen our pre-math skills.  We’ve been learning that math is when we learn about numbers and that numbers are all around us.  Everyone is having a great time exploring math tools and manipulatives.  We’ve been looking at, touching, experimenting and taking turns with various items.  It has been fun introducing the math line, a kitchen scale and our giant calculator!

During our social-emotional learning, we are continuing to learn basic emotions and the zones they fall under.  Within our current theme, students are sharing their opinions on which animals they like and which are their favorites.  We’ve taken a virtual field trip to a farm and that put everyone in the green zone!

Reminders:

Please send in your child’s emergency kit as soon as possible.  We want to be prepared for any emergency situation with non-perishable food items and small toys.  Thanks so much for your help in getting the small plastic bag returned to school.

There is no school on Monday, October 18th.  This is a teacher work day.

Picture retakes are scheduled for Tuesday, November 9th.

Finally, thank you to every family for taking the time to fill out your child’s communication notebook each morning.  Your insight provides program staff with valuable information!

Take care,

Jaime
