Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break!

Temperatures are dropping and snow is in the air…literally! Friendly reminder that school closures are announced on the district website. There is potential for snow next week, so please check every morning for the latest decisions regarding school closures or delays. Also, check in with your bus driver if you’re unsure about snow routes.

There are two NO SCHOOL days coming up this month – January 20th and January 27th. Enjoy the extended weekends!

The district is offering a Special Services Parent Night next week on Tuesday, January 14th, from 6:30pm-8:00pm at Pacific Cascade Middle School. The session will be addressing how to participate in your child’s strengths-based IEP meeting. The Special Services Department will be partnering with The Arc of King County for this training and all parents are invited to attend.

A quick update on what’s been going on in class as we continue to dive into Equals math. Just before break, we discussed the vocabulary words look, touch, explore, same and different. This week we’ve added the seasons to our word list and talked about how winter and summer are different. We’ve been sorting seasonal activities, graphing snowman parts and making ice-skates with foam shape pieces. The wintery weather outside is really going to help our understanding of the different seasons, so the snow might be a good thing next week!

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I’d love to hear any new successes in your child’s life as well!

Take care,
Jaime
